Course Outline

Watercolour combines well with drawing media such as: pen and ink; graphite; charcoal and artists soft pastel. It creates interesting effects with resists like crayon and wax and special textures can be created with simple household items and materials. It can be used with other papers for collage and with gouache for monoprinting. We will explore these techniques for small works of art and greetings cards and discover which are suitable for out-door sketching, art journals and illustrations. If there is something particular you would like to try out – let the tutor know and she will do her best to include it! For each class, your tutor will demonstrate a different combination of media and will provide an exercise and reference material such as still life, or photographs to inspire creativity. You will be encouraged to experiment, use your own style and work on your own projects. There is an excellent overhead projection system for videos, images and instructions. All materials are included in the course fee. However you may wish to bring your own A3 visual diary for sketches and notes and/or a folder for their work and an apron.
