Course Outline
Watercolour – Paint and Draw Nature – Term 4 of 2026 Starts Thursday evening 8 October 2026 Dates: 8-29 October & 5-26 November 8 weekly– 3 hour sessions In this eclectic course, we will look at nature from the perspective of the artist, scientist and wildlife lover, with emphasis on what is around us in the Top End: animals, birds, insects, trees, flowers and found objects from the bush or seashore. We will use various references including natural found objects and plants, photographs (including participants’ own photographs), videos and masterpieces by other artists. Starting with pencil drawings which may be finished with watercolour, we will observe nature closely and interpret what we see to make individualised artwork. The course will include tutor demonstrations of essential drawing and watercolour techniques, visual presentations; handouts and reference books; practical student exercises and picture making sometimes using masterpieces as a guide. It is aimed at participants who have some drawing experience, but beginners are welcomed. The only requirement is a love of nature. Numbers are limited to just 8 students, so a good level of individual help and mentoring can be given. Course fee includes artist’s quality materials, handouts, tea and coffee Suitable for all levels Small group: maximum 8 Artist’s quality watercolour materials and equipment are included in the course fee. However students may like to bring a notebook and an A3 display book to keep their art work together. CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS Please choose carefully as course fees will not be refunded to participants who are unable to attend the course due to changes in personal circumstances or work commitments. Course fees will not be refunded once confirmation and/or commencement of the course has occurred. In the event of a serious illness, you may request to transfer to the following term. A full refund of course fees will be paid if the advertised course does not proceed. Participants will be advised if a class does not have the minimum number of students to commence.
