Course Outline

Course outline: This 8 week course is an opportunity to slow down and work through a series of creative processes, which result in very elegant and often stunning representations of manufactured products. The final drawings can look very impressive and realistic but in reality are simply the result of a series of carefully followed steps. This type of drawing has similarities to the approach that has been taken by Product and Industrial Designers, especially before the more recent developments in technology. The approach we take here however, means that even absolute beginners, can achieve great results. 1. Introduction - structure of course. Views/drawing systems/first project : calculator 2. Tracing and transfer of image - laying down marker layers 3. Finishing first project with pencils 4. Development of drawings for major project (e.g “wheel barrow” or “glue gun”) * 5. Transfer of drawings and laying down marker layer 6. Completion of marker work with planning for detail 7. Coloured pencil work including shadows, details, highlights 8. Mounting and presentation with lettering and background ideas. * the opportunity to complete more than the two projects mentioned above, will depend upon the progress of individuals within the class. Artist’s quality materials and equipment are included in the course fee. However students may like to bring a notebook and an A3 display book to keep their art work together.
