Course Outline

Course Outline Starts Wednesday evenings 14th October 2026 with 4 weekly sessions: Dates: 14th, 21st 28th October and 4th November. 6pm to 9pm. Using a variety of media – pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, pastel and watercolour - join David Dalzell to learn the fundamentals of creating the human face. We will use projected media, books, printed handouts, mirrors and tutor demonstrations - to accurately draw and paint the human face by mastering proportions, lighting and anatomy. The course will cover foundational construction methods, tonal values, and rendering realistic textures and atmosphere. All materials are included, with participants still encouraged to bring any of their favourite ones and the visual diary they may keep during the course. Course fee includes artist’s quality materials, handouts, and basic tea and coffee. This course is suitable for all levels. About the Tutor: David Dalzell is a prize-winning artist, living in Darwin and leads painting and design courses across the Top-End. David exhibits and sells his artwork internationally in New Zealand, the UK, Europe, as well as Australia.
