Course Outline

Over 8 creative weeks, you’ll explore colour, texture and light as you learn to paint through close observation of landscapes and natural forms. Under Valerie’s guidance, you’ll discover how to use acrylics, charcoal and coloured pencils to build vivid pictures such as beach scenes, rich textures and fine details that bring your artwork to life. You’ll experiment with bright, expressive colour, practise capturing light and shade, and develop confidence in mixed‑media techniques that feel both achievable and inspiring. This course is welcoming, supportive and perfect for all levels — especially beginners who’ve always wanted to try painting but haven’t felt ready to take the leap. All materials are artist quality and supplied in the course but students are encouraged to bring in their own visual diary to take notes. If they want to bring in their favourite paints and brushes to use exclusively that is perfectly acceptable. About your Tutor: "My name is Marie Claire Valerie Baya - Valerie for short! i am from Mauritius and I studied art & design and food science in High School as my major for 7 years (till year 12). Using my passion for art, I decided to study interior architecture at university. For the past 8 years, I have been receiving some orders via social media, and I have had 3 art exhibitions in Darwin, one of which was a solo exhibition.
