Course Outline

Course Description: This is an 8 week course held every Wednesday evening (6:30pm to 8:30pm). Spanish Continuers is for those who have completed the Spanish beginners course and would like to move to the next level. It is also suitable for those who know the basics (perhaps from high school, self study, or travel). This is a continuing course to the Spanish language and builds on the language proficiency gained over the previous beginners course. This course is ideal for students who are beginners or have studied some Spanish in the past and would like a refresher course. We will learn and revise everyday vocabulary for interacting with others; describing people, places and weather; likes and past-times. We will also learn/revise basic grammar to enable interactions using suitable verbs, gender and sentence structures. We will be reading, writing, listening and speaking in every lesson in a variety of activities, designed to encourage active learning. Your instructor: Janette Thomas is a Spanish teacher, trained at La Trobe University in Melbourne. She has over ten years’ experience teaching Spanish in Melbourne secondary schools and in Darwin. Jan travels to Spain regularly to study and remain current with language trends. Her passion is learning and using Spanish through study, travel, reading Spanish novels, watching Spanish films and many WhatsApp Spanish conversations with friends in Spain, USA and Costa Rica. If you’d like to further develop your Spanish language skills, join Jan’s class and continue your language journey! Spanish is the primary language of 20 countries worldwide and there are more than 400 million native speakers of Spanish, making it second only to Chinese in terms of the most spoken languages in the world. English is just behind Spanish, with approximately 360 million native speakers. Spanish is the third most studied language in the world, after English and French.
