Course Outline
What is Ikigai? ...Inspired by the traditional Japanese concept of Ikigai — “that which makes life worth living” — this engaging workshop series invites participants to explore purpose, wellbeing, creativity, connection, and life satisfaction in a supportive and reflective environment. Designed especially for adults in midlife and beyond, the series combines guided reflection, discussion, practical activities, and gentle Japanese-inspired approaches to meaningful living and positive ageing. No prior experience is needed. The workshops are suitable for anyone interested in personal growth, wellbeing, healthy ageing, or Japanese cultural perspectives on living well. About your Tutor: Kathy Henschke joins DASC this Dry Season as a truly exceptional visiting tutor, bringing with her a remarkable blend of academic depth, professional experience, and a warm, people‑centred teaching style. Based in Drysdale, Victoria, Kathy has spent the past six years working as a certified Ikigai Coach, helping individuals uncover purpose, clarity, and direction in their personal and professional lives. Her workshops have been a much‑loved fixture at the Springdale Neighbourhood House for the past four to five years, where participants consistently praise her ability to create supportive, insightful learning environments. Kathy’s academic background is equally impressive. She holds a Doctorate in Education, a Master’s degree in Information Technology, and a Bachelor of Science—an uncommon combination that gives her a uniquely holistic approach to teaching and personal development. Her career includes 25 years as a full‑time lecturer at RMIT University, followed by two years as a casual lecturer and tutor at Deakin University. Earlier in her career, she also taught secondary Maths and Science for four years, grounding her practice in real‑world classroom experience. DASC is delighted to welcome Kathy to Darwin, and participants will have the rare opportunity to learn from someone whose expertise spans education, coaching, science, technology, and human development. Her workshop promises to be thoughtful, energising, and deeply rewarding. For a seniors discount of 10% use coupon code SENIOR at check out - ID will be checked at class register.
