Course Outline

Discover the joy of shaping clay with your hands in this dynamic, inspiring four‑week course designed for anyone who loves functional art, beautiful objects, and creative exploration. Over the month, you’ll dive into the endless possibilities of hand‑built tableware, learning techniques that allow you to create pieces that are expressive, personal, and uniquely yours. Across the first three weeks, you’ll explore three distinct construction and decoration methods, each opening up new ways to form and finish your work. You’ll experiment with slab building, mould shaping, coiling, and crafting organic forms, giving you the freedom to create cups, bowls, plates, platters, and sculptural tableware that reflects your own style. Decoration becomes its own adventure as you play with underglazing, sgraffito, found textures, glaze transfers, and a range of glaze finishes suited to your designs. The final week is dedicated to finishing and glazing, bringing your pieces to life with colour, surface, and shine. Whether you’re new to clay or expanding your skills, this course offers a warm, creative environment where you can experiment, learn, and produce tableware you’ll be proud to use and display. Although she is based in Western Australia, Darwin is incredibly fortunate to welcome her back for another round of workshops. DASC is genuinely grateful to have access to her depth of skill, artistic insight, and generous teaching style. Her teaching journey has included time with Tactile Arts as well as previous Adult Short Courses, where her sessions have always been met with enthusiasm.
