Course Outline
Gain an understanding of your sewing machine, and learn how to sew with Christine. Please note: This course is for absolute beginners to sewing! You will be working on the very basics such as using a sewing machine. If you already know how to sew, please contact us and wait for the next course suited to your level. This 5-week course is for beginners and will focus on how to use and familiarise yourself with the sewing machine, using simple projects, that with practice, will eventually build your confidence to move onto garments at a later stage. Learn this useful skill that has endless applications, from fixing everyday items, to up-cycling and creating personalised gifts. Cover all the basics from trouble shooting your machine, stitching patterns, linings, zips and learn how to incorporate and work these skills into different sewing projects. This course is for those who don’t have the confidence or ability to attempt simple projects, and would like to progress into new areas and learn a different skill set. What you will learn: Weeks 1 and 2 • • Get familiar with the sewing machine and practice threading. • Work on sewing straight lines for precision. • Create a simple drawstring bag and small pouches. • Explore different decorative stitches for added creativity. Weeks 3 and 4 • Begin second and third projects, including various tote bag designs. • Learn how to add handles, pockets, and inner linings. • Sew a cushion cover with a zipper and explore zipper insertion techniques for other projects. • Gain an understanding of essential pattern-reading terms for future projects. Your Tutor: Christine has been a practising artist for about 30 years and learnt to sew as a child, taught by her mother. She has continued to sew over the years, and has developed her skills to the point that she makes most of her own clothes. Christine thoroughly enjoys sewing and receives great pleasure from introducing people to sewing and sharing the little tips and short cuts that she has developed over the years. CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS Please choose carefully as course fees will not be refunded to participants who are unable to attend the course due to changes in personal circumstances or work commitments. Course fees will not be refunded once confirmation and/or commencement of the course has occurred. Joining a course after it has started is at the discretion of administration and the course tutor therefore full course costs may still be incurred. In the event of a serious illness, you may request to transfer to the following term. A full refund of course fees will be paid if the advertised course does not proceed. Participants will be advised if a class does not have the minimum number of students to commence.
