Course Outline

Adobe InDesign is the often overlooked but very powerful part of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, used for designing professional documents and publications. Think of InDesign as Adobe's equivalent to Microsoft Word and Publisher, but a hundred times better. It can be used to produce pretty much anything that gets printed, as well as digital publications like eBooks. In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of InDesign including document setup, working with typography, placing graphics and making the most of styles. InDesign is useful to you if you need to create or edit documents such as books, magazines, reports, posters, newsletters, forms, brochures. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: • introduction to the InDesign workspace; • handling text– InDesign’s text formatting tools, character and paragraph styles; • exploring graphic and text frames, multiple undos; • importing graphics; • Parent pages (formerly known as "Master" pages); • colour– colour modes (CMYK, RGB); • printing and exporting to PDF In-class exercises will include all of the below: - Where to find free (and legal) stock images and fonts to use in your creative projects - Design a custom business card - Design a children's book - Design a set of postcards (compliant with Australia Post requirements) - Design a tri-fold / DL brochure - Design a professional resume Requirements: Students are encouraged to bring a memory stick to class so you can take your work home.
