Course Outline
This is a super course in genealogy and family history research, with a focus on civil registrations, archival sources, and practical research skills. A structured course that will guide you through the steps to retrace ancestors, discover places you had no idea you were connected to and find out more about you! Course Outline: Week 1 - Foundations of family history records Week 2 - Core records and first steps Week 3 - Building your family tree Week 4 - Recording and organising your research Week 5 - Identifying gaps and small "Brick Walls" Week 6 - Research techniques search strategies Week 7 - Consolidating and guided practice Week 8 - Reviewing progress and planning next step About your tutor: Virginia holds a Diploma of Family History from the University of Tasmania and has over 25 years of experience researching family history across Australia and International records. Her work involves structured research, analysing historical documents, and guiding individuals through complex archival sources. In her professional work she regularly supports individuals in understanding processes, navigating documentation and developing practical skills in a clear and methodical way.
