Course Outline

Starts Saturday May 24th for 4 weeks. Sketching and painting en plein air is enjoyable (even in the Top End climate) and allows us to capture the feel and essence of a scene which can’t be achieved by simply copying photographs. This course will include demonstrations, exercises, techniques and tips on how to capture essential information in a short time working outdoors. Sketches may be used to make dynamic and expressive watercolours, finished off in the studio. We can try out different materials and equipment to see what works well outside and discuss practicalities, such as how to choose your spot to sketch and how to deal with admiring bystanders. Sessions will start and end in the studio, with out-door sketching of the natural and built environment in the School’s attractive grounds. This serves as good practice for more demanding environments further afield! Watercolour and drawing materials are included in the course fee but students may wish bring their own A4 or A3 visual diary or watercolour sketchbook. Suitable for all levels, Small group: maximum 8 For more information contact tutor Alison by email alisonworsnop13@gmail.com About your tutor: Alison Worsnop has braved the Top End climate for many years painting en plein air in watercolour and other media.
