Chef Jenny's Chinese Treats Cooking Lesson: Chinese Spring Rolls, Dumplings, and Prawn Toast Step into the kitchen and explore the delicious world of Chinese appetizers with this engaging cooking lesson. You'll learn to make three classic favorites: Chinese Spring Rolls, Dumplings, and Prawn Toast. Appetizer 1: Chinese Spring Rolls (春卷) Begin your culinary journey by preparing Chinese Spring Rolls. You'll learn to create the perfect filling using a mix of vegetables, and optionally, meats such as shrimp or pork. Discover the techniques for wrapping the rolls tightly and frying them to golden, crispy perfection. We'll also cover making a dipping sauce to complement the rolls. Appetizer 2: Dumplings (饺子) Next, dive into the art of making Dumplings. You'll master making the dough from scratch, preparing a flavorful filling (options include pork, chicken, shrimp, or vegetables), and the intricate folding techniques to ensure each dumpling is perfectly sealed. Whether you prefer them steamed, boiled, or pan-fried, we'll guide you through each method. Appetizer 3: Prawn Toast (虾多士) Finally, discover the delightful Prawn Toast. You'll blend prawn meat with seasonings to create a savory spread, learn how to properly coat slices of bread, and fry them to achieve a crispy exterior with a succulent prawn topping. This appetizer is sure to impress with its texture and flavor. Throughout the lesson, you'll gain insights into Chinese cooking techniques, ingredient selection, and cultural significance behind these dishes. You will get hands-on with prepping and cooking the dishes for the class and get the chance to taste your delicious meal at the end of the class and enjoy the company of your classmates.
