Course Outline
Course outline Photography Essentials is a 3-week engaging course to introduce or refresh your understanding of the basics of using your digital camera (including DSLR, mirrorless/compact cameras) and an opportunity to learn fundamental photography techniques. Please bring along your camera each session. Through a combination of theory sessions and practical exercises including field trips, you can apply your new knowledge, as well as gaining ongoing feedback on the photographs you produce. This course will introduce you to the parts of your camera such as; body, lens, shutter, aperture and their controls, to ensure you can use the right settings according to the context for the photography. You will gain an understanding of the fundamental principles of photography – shutter, aperture, focusing and ISO to enable you to solve your annoying photographic problems yourself; such as unfocused or over/under exposed photographs. This short course is made up of 3 individual lessons tailored to suit you, so be sure to ask plenty of questions! Course Outcomes Students who complete this course will gain an understanding in the following skills and knowledge: • Learning to use your digital camera • Digital camera controls • Principles of exposure systems and correct exposure (Auto/manual) • Digital image capture and its benefits and limitations • Downloading and saving digital images as files - JPEG vs RAW • Photographic techniques to achieve varied effects • The best Automatic Settings to use • Caring for our camera and lenses About your tutor Chris Knight is a highly experienced professional photographer. Chris has taught photography, and Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom since the early 1990s. Chris also runs a successful photography company in Darwin.
