In this 3-day introductory short course participants will be introduced to the technique of traditional Japanese woodblock printmaking. The class will include: • A brief introduction to the culture of Japanese prints and the technique of woodblock printing, as well as contemporary woodblock prints. • Presenting traditional tools and demonstration of how to use them. • Carving woodblocks using Japanese shina, including the traditional registration method. • Learning how to print, including blending and printing your own multi-coloured image on Japanese paper. Bring a sketch or digital printout for some image ideas or feel inspired on the day. Beginners class, no experience necessary – just an interest in learning something new! About Jacqueline Jacqueline Gribbin is a practising artist and printmaker. She spent 11 years in Japan where she trained as a Printer.
