Course Outline

🎨 Discovering Negative Space! Ages: 6–13 Duration: 3 hours In this creative holiday workshop, children will explore the fascinating concept of negative space—the background that makes shapes and colours stand out. Through playful experimentation, they’ll learn how to combine expressive underpainting with simple templates to create striking artworks full of contrast and imagination. ✨ What kids will experience: Learn about negative space: Understand how the “space around” a shape can define an artwork. Expressive underpainting: Use brushes, sponges, and blending techniques to create bold, colourful backgrounds. Template design: Sketch and cut simple shapes, then experiment with placement and composition. Layering and contrast: Paint around templates with a contrasting colour to reveal vibrant designs beneath. Finishing touches: Add outlines, borders, or patterns to complete their unique artwork. Mini art show: Display their creations in a gallery walk and celebrate each child’s creativity. 🌈 Key outcomes: Build confidence in layering, composition, and creative decision‑making. Discover how colour and space work together in art. Experience freedom of expression in a supportive, hands‑on environment. Take home a finished negative space painting that’s bold, colourful, and uniquely theirs. About your Tutor Tamara is a local artist but also has teaching experience.
