Introduction to Sewing: Learn to sew with Christine Learning and understanding your sewing machine. Please note: This course is for absolute beginners to sewing, you will be working on the absolute basics such as using a sewing machine. If you already know how to sew, please contact us and wait for the next course suited to your level. This 4 week course is for beginners and will focus on how to use and familiarise yourself with the sewing machine using simple projects, that with practice, will eventually build your confidence to move onto garments at a later stage. Learn this useful skill that has endless applications from fixing everyday items to up-cycling and creating personalised gifts. Cover all the basics from trouble shooting your machine to stitching patterns, linings, zips and how to incorporate and work these skills into different sewing projects. This course is for those who don’t have the confidence or ability to attempt simple projects and also for those who have basic sewing knowledge but would like practice with some simple as well as slightly more advanced projects. The course can be adjusted to your level and depending on your ability it can progress into new areas and different skill sets. What you will learn: Week 1 and 2 - Learn all about the sewing machine and practice threading - Practice sewing in a straight line - Create a drawstring bag with 3 sides and other small pouches Week 3 and 4 – Move onto a second & third projects - Different tote bag designs - Handles - Pockets and inner lining - How to use different decorative stitches - Cushion cover with a zip - Learn different closing options for your cushion - Learn some general glossary terms for pattern reading for future projects Your Tutor: Christine has been a practising artist for about 30 years and learnt to sew as a child, taught by my mother. She has continued to sew over the years and has developed her skills to the point that she makes most of her own clothes. Christine thoroughly enjoys sewing and recieves great pleasure from introducing people to sewing and sharing the little tips and short cuts that have been shared with her over the years. CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS Please choose carefully as course fees will not be refunded to participants who are unable to attend the course due to changes in personal circumstances or work commitments. Course fees will not be refunded once confirmation and/or commencement of the course has occurred. In the event of a serious illness, you may request to transfer to the following term. A full refund of course fees will be paid if the advertised course does not proceed. Participants will be advised if a class does not have the minimum number of students to commence.
